What Is Covered In DriverDirect?
The DriverDirect course provides trainees with classroom and behind-the-wheel training based on The Smith5Keys®. At the end of the day, trainees receive a Smith System certificate of completion, a Driver’s Study Guide, the written performance evaluation, and skill recommendations to practice that develop safe driving habits. Type of Training
One-Day Course (Recommended)
Train up to 5 drivers
Train up to 4 drivers
2 drivers in the A.M.
2 drivers in the P.M.
3 drivers with 1 instructor
1 hour eLearning (assigned 2 weeks before class)
The Smith System instructor delivers the classroom instruction to prepare students for behind-the-wheel training. The classroom instruction includes:
Introduction to The Smith5Keys
Presentation in forward motion, backing, and parking crash prevention methods
Explanation of recent NHTSA highway statistics
Quizzes to support retention
Note: eLearning replaces classroom instruction for 1-on-1 courses
Advanced Backing & Close-Quarter Maneuvering
Backing collisions represent 30% to 60% of most fleets’ crashes, and the associated costs can be significant. This 1-day course, taught by our instructors, gives your fleet drivers the tools they need to make smart decisions when backing, parking, and maneuvering near fixed objects using The Smith5Keys®.
How It Works
When you choose on-site training, a certified Smith System Instructor will come to your location to conduct the class. We train up to 5 people per class.
Pick your desired training date.
Choose the location: For on-site training, you provide the classroom for instruction. Most clients conduct training at their office locations.
Provide the training vehicle: The training vehicle should accommodate up to 6 passengers. If you need us to provide the vehicle, just let us know.
Open Enrollment Training
If you have employees in various locations and/or have under 5 employees in need of training, our 2-hour open enrollment classes are a great option. When you choose open enrollment training, Smith System provides a meeting location and training vehicle, so all you have to do is show up prepared to learn.

More Training Options
Our train-the-trainer certifications provide your staff with the skills to teach our proven crash-prevention methods to your fleet drivers. DriverTrainer is available in a five-day session with up to six trainees or in a four-day session with up to four trainees.
Our eLearning courses are an excellent introduction to — and reinforcement of — The Smith5Keys to safe driving. eLearning allows students to learn the Smith System driving methodology at their own pace.
